Leflore Early Arts Project (LEAP)
LEAP
ArtPlace Mississippi continues to grow as the creative heartbeat of Leflore County—bringing
high-quality arts education to children, families, and adults who might not otherwise have access.
What began as a small effort has blossomed into a thriving network of programs that now reach
hundreds of participants each year.
Early Arts Education:
Our Leflore Early Arts Project (LEAP) has grown from two partner daycare centers to six, now
serving children at God’s Helping Hands, Joy of Learning Academy, First Presbyterian
Kids, Nativity Day School (two age groups), and St. John’s Preschool (two classes of 15).
Through weekly artist-led lessons, LEAP builds fine motor skills, creativity, and early STEM
readiness in our youngest learners—all at no cost to families or centers.
ArtPlace’s reach continues beyond the classroom. Our popular Saturday Art Club now meets the
first and second Saturdays of each month from September through May, offering a joyful, hands-
on space for children to explore artmaking. Summer camps expanded to engage 229 students this
year, while Wacky Wednesdays at Nativity Summer Camp and Art at the Farmers Market
offered 24 weeks of artist-led sessions that reached dozens more children.
