Acrylic and mixed media
Explore landscapes with composition prompts and creative exercises designed to challenge thinking, the process, and the result. Participants will work with a limited primary color palette with various media playing with translucency of layers, interaction of the different medias, composition, value, and mark making.
There will be demos, creative exercises, discussion, and individual instruction.
Shirley is fascinated by the connection between art, science, ecology, microscopy, etc. As a recently retired high school art teacher, Shirley is excited to spend her time creating art and exploring all of those connections.
Hey Quilters!
Tuesday Mornings in September (5 Tuesdays) $125
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
This month we’ll be playing with a variation of the Drunkard’s Path—a deceptively simple block that, once you learn the trick, opens up endless possibilities for design. It’s a fun and satisfying project for both beginners and experienced quilters!
I’ll have templates available for everyone to use. If you’d like to invest in your own hard-plastic template, there are many sizes available, depending on how large you want your blocks to be.
For this project, you’ll want two contrasting colors—think red and yellow, cream and black, or pink and white. To make things easy, you can purchase charm packs or layer cakes, depending on your preferred block size. This will save you some cutting time and get you right to the fun part!
As always, I’ll have a large assortment of fabrics available to share and supplement your project, and all sewing machines are provided for you to use.
Looking forward to another month of stitching, experimenting, and creating together!
Our adult workshops are offered throughout the season and are a great way to get creative with your friends, family, civic groups, and supper clubs. Interested in a private workshop? Contact us to check availability and to schedule your class.
Hey Quilters!
Tuesday Mornings in August (3 Tuesdays) $75
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
This month we'll be playing with a variation using charm squares—a deceptively simple 5" x 5" block with endless possibilities. There are so many creative ways to arrange these little squares into beautiful quilts, whether you're making a sweet crib quilt or a cozy throw to prepare for the cooler months ahead. It's a fun and satisfying project for both beginners and experienced quilters.
Bring your fabric scraps or start with fresh fabrics—either approach works beautifully. For this project, you'll need two charm packs in your chosen design colors and approximately 1¼ yards of a neutral fabric (cream, white, or another background color). If you'd rather skip some cutting, you can also purchase your neutral fabric in charm packs.
As always, I'll have a large assortment of fabrics available to share and supplement your project and all sewing machines are provided for your use.
Looking forward to another month of stitching together!
