How we work

Guided by our mission

All of our work is guided by our mission to create access to the arts in Leflore County. This means ArtPlace works to fulfill three main functions on a regular basis:

  1. To host programs in varied art disciplines, both for the benefit of the participants and the instructor who is compensated for their time and talent,

  2. To support the work of other arts organizations through partnerships, the sharing of information, and building relationships, and

  3. To work to continue to build awareness about the benefits of the arts for people of all ages.

Art is for everyone

Study after study confirms that access to the arts is beneficial for all people during all times in life. Yet we continue to see a decrease in access to arts programming, especially in under-served populations, and especially in rural areas. What does this mean? This means that in a place like Leflore County, Mississippi we have big hurdles to climb to ensure that our people have access to arts programming. We believe that this cause is important and that the development of creative identity and autonomy creates stronger, healthier people, and in turn stronger and healthier communities.
